In May, brandid were invited to attend a special event at the house of commons. It was sponsored by Anne Campbell, MP and was to celebrate Silver Surfers Day, as part of Adult Learners Week. Awards were given to three exceptional people who have learned about the internet late in life and now use it with gusto, in many cases enrolling their friends and family!
brandid have been developing a unique piece of software called Digital Unite, with a company specialising in Adult Learning, Hairnet. Digital Unite was showcased at the event and received tremendous positive interest. It is a piece of community based software, used to connect older people living together in sheltered accommodation schemes. Residents can all participate in discussions, vote on topical issues and post messages online about goods wanted or for sale. The program has been piloted in 10 schemes in London, and 10 more are due to join shortly for phase 2. The next stage of development will include new administration features, so that each scheme has control over how much or how little they do themselves, plus online messaging and shared interest groups. The vision is to roll out Digital Unite nationally.
